Navigation Guide
Silvio Pettirossi International Airport lies in Luque, about fifteen to twenty kilometres from the hotel, usually twenty five to forty minutes by car depending on traffic. The hotel reportedly offers an airport shuttle, which should be booked in advance. Official airport taxis have fixed fares, and Bolt and Uber also operate. Rush hour traffic on Avenida Aviadores del Chaco can lengthen the journey considerably.
Ride hailing apps such as Bolt, Uber and the local MUV are widely used in Asunción and are usually cheaper and more transparent than street taxis. They are the most practical way to reach Villa Morra, Shopping del Sol or Carmelitas in the evening. Fares are low by international standards. Having a local SIM card makes ordering rides easier.
City buses cover most of Asunción, but routes are confusing for visitors and many vehicles are old. Payment uses rechargeable cards. Buses are crowded at rush hour.
The Terminal de Ómnibus, about fifteen minutes by car, handles long distance buses to Ciudad del Este, Encarnación and international destinations such as Buenos Aires and Foz do Iguaçu. Premium companies offer comfortable sleeper seats.
Encarnación, about five to six hours by bus, is the base for visiting the Jesuit missions of Trinidad and Jesús, listed by UNESCO, and for summer beaches on the Paraná.
The lake town of San Bernardino and the pottery village of Areguá are popular day trips, reachable by car or bus in about one hour.
Driving in Asunción requires patience, as traffic is heavy and road rules are loosely followed. Heavy summer rains can flood streets quickly.
